In a Flash: Writing Short Fiction Vol. 1

An introduction to short story writing, this course aims to enhance students’ understanding of the fundamentals of narrative. Throughout the three-month course, students will read selected works of prose, explore different story ideas and experiment with literary techniques. Discussion topics include point-of-view, narrative and character development, conflict, and effective dialogue. There will also be discussion about how to develop a writer’s mindset. The instructor will provide personalised feedback on students’ work, while the group engages in peer review. Outstanding works will be selected for a student writing anthology, to be published at the end of 2021.
