The Department is unique in its range in Hong Kong in teaching across the canon in English literature. English Literature has a long and influential history, chronicling many centuries of knowledge and wisdom. The Department is committed to sustaining and enhancing the study of English literature, offering comprehensive introduction to this important field. Faculty members have made distinguished contributions particularly in the areas of Romanticism, Modernism and contemporary literature.
Grant Hamilton works on the twentieth-century novel, literary theory and computational literary studies. David Huddart’s research focuses on autobiographical discourses and literary theories. Carolyn Lau’s work focuses on global speculative fiction and posthumanism. Joanna Mansbridge’s areas of expertise include performance studies, film and drama. Collier Nogues specializes in creative writing and contemporary poetry. Li Ou’s research focuses on Romanticism, especially Keats, and works on Romantic poetics and poetic tradition. Eli Park Sorensen works on contemporary literature, theory, and comparative literature, and Eddie Tay’s work looks at creative writing, autoethnography, and street photography.
