An introduction to the fundamentals of storytelling, this three-month course combines brief lectures on craft and workshop critiques. Students will read selected works of prose and poetry by authors from diverse cultural backgrounds, and explore different ideas and literary techniques. Discussion topics include point-of-view, narrative logic, character development, conflict, and voice. There will also be some discussion about how to develop a writer’s mindset.
The instructor will provide personalised feedback on students’ work, while the group engages in peer review in class. Outstanding works will be selected for publication in a student writing anthology, to be published in early 2023.
