Sarah graduated from Yale with a B.A. in literature. During college she studied Mandarin and focused on Chinese contemporary and modern fiction and English literature. She wrote her senior thesis on African American poetry and autobiography.

In college, Sarah was a reporter and later an editor for the Yale Daily News. During her freshman year she was awarded the Richard U. Light Fellowship, through which she studied Mandarin in Beijing for two months. While in Hong Kong, Sarah will continue to study Mandarin as well as start learning Cantonese. In addition to language study, she is very interested in learning more about US-China relations.

When she’s not in the classroom, Sarah can usually be found playing tennis or running. She also enjoys creative writing. She hopes to get more involved in the literary communities on campus and in Hong Kong. She is very excited to learn more about Hong Kong culture over the two years of her fellowship.
