Entrance Requirements

In general, applicants must meet the general requirements as defined in the most recent Graduate School brochure http://www.gs.cuhk.edu.hk/ published by The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
In particular:

 

  • Applicants should normally possess a good honours degree in English or a language-related field. They should display a strong interest in applied linguistics and possess a good command of English.
     
  • Applicants from outside Hong Kong who are nonnative speakers of English must also produce IELTS or TOEFL scores obtained within 2 years. (Specific requirement: overall IELTS 7.0 or above, with a minimum writing score 6.5; or overall TOEFL score 100 or above) 
     
  • A year of relevant professional experience is desirable but not required.
     
  • Applicants must submit a 500-word statement about their interests and goals related to postgraduate study in applied linguistics.
     
  • Applicants will be shortlisted to an interview (in person or by phone). The interview aims to assess the applicants’ linguistic and intellectual abilities as well as their understanding of basic concepts in applied linguistics.
